  I had a look at your tech talk...clear and concise summary..I think perhaps the web application developer community is wary of Microsoft based on the angst the have caused over the years with their take on standards implementation in IE...
  there is also the possible impact of html5 to consider...we are certainly considering the very issue of where to now for web application development..

  I agree that HTML 5 could play an important role here - in some ways it addresses the very holes that SL and Flash are filling, i.e. building RIAs.
  
  Ironically when I asked Giorgio Sardo about this during his HTML 5 talk at TechEd (in NZ) he didn't see any conflict of interest here. Perhaps he knows more than us.
